Nucleus Olivaris Inferior


In this study a scoring system was developed whereby possible risk factors for hypoxic-ischaemic events during pregnancy, birth and in the perinatal period were correlated with the level of gliosis in the Nucleus Olivaris inferior in SIDS victims (n = 19). The points were summarized for each infant, and this sum was correlated with the level of gliosis in the infant's Nucleus Olivaris inferior. Our results show that in SIDS victims there is 41% probability that the more the mothers smoked during pregnancy, the more gliosis in the Nucleus Olivaris inferior is found in their infants (p < 0.01). Gliosis in the Nucleus Olivaris inferior also correlated with the possible risk factors for hypoxic-ischaemic events during pregnancy, birth and the perinatal period (r2 = 0.28, p < 0.05).  

Quantitative evaluation of the hippocampal cortex and the Nucleus Olivaris inferior disclosed a significantly (P < 0.05) higher percentage of Alz-50-reactive neurons in SIDS cases than in the control groups (hippocampal cortex and the nucleus olivaris; SIDS victims: median = 100%; subacute hypoxia/ischemia: median = 33.6-81%; acute ischemia: median = 89.2-99%).  

Visuo-vestibular interaction (VST) abnormality, with normal saccades and normal smooth pursuit movements, allows to suppose normal functioning of the flocculus and a damage in the Nucleus Olivaris inferior and, particular, in the paraolive..  

Two types of neurons were distinguished in Nucleus Olivaris inferior of the European bison.  

4) CPZ depressed significantly the cerebellar potentials evoked by stimulation of the nucleus reticularis lateralis (LRN) or Nucleus Olivaris inferior (ION) in intact, decerebrated and spinal cats.  

After microinjection of FB into the NRM, a great number of FB-labeled NA-containing cells were found in the region of the nucleus reticularis lateralis (corresponding to A1 NA areas), the reticular formation just dorsolateral to the Nucleus Olivaris inferior (corresponding to the A3 NA area), the ventral part of the locus coeruleus (A6 NA area), and the lateral parts of the nucleus raphe dorsalis (B7 area). In addition to the FB-labeled monoaminergic (NA and 5-HT) cells, many FB-labeled non-monoamine containing neurons were observed in the Nucleus Olivaris inferior and various parts of the reticular formation (FR), particularly in the reticular formation of the pons.  

Exceptions were the substantia nigra, the Nucleus Olivaris inferior and the substantia gelatinosa of the fifth nerve.  

The possible constituent neurons of the reverberating circuits were investigated in light of previous physiological investigations of stimulating the NRTP, PMRN, nucleus reticularis lateralis (LRN), Nucleus Olivaris inferior (IO) and recording EPSPs in RN cells.  

Silver impregnation revealed degenerated nerve fibers and terminals in the ipsilateral globus pallidus, putamen, Nucleus Olivaris inferior (major accessorius medialis), thalamus (VA, VPL, Cn.  

Morphine (2.0 mg/kg, i.v.) decreased the potentials by superficial radial nerve (SR), nucleus reticularis lateralis (LRN), or Nucleus Olivaris inferior (ION) stimulation on the cerebellar cortices.  

In rats treated with colchicine, CRFi cell bodies are found in the hypothalamus and occasionally in the nucleus tractus solitarius and the Nucleus Olivaris inferior.  

The effects of drugs on the potentials evoked by electrical stimulation on the sensorimotor area (SMA), nucleus reticularis tegmenti pontis (PTRN), nucleus reticularis lateralis (LRN), Nucleus Olivaris inferior (ION), or superficial radial nerve (SR) were investigated in cat cerebellar cortices.  

(3) Three subdivisions of Nucleus Olivaris inferior, i.e. nucleus olivaris accessorius medialis, nucleus olivaris accessorius dorsalis and Nucleus Olivaris inferior, which were not reported in the earlier neuroanatomical studies, have been identified.
